Van and his guests are in top form. This is one great live album. The recording quality is very good. It starts cooking from the opening track and doesn't let up one bit until it is all over. They really integrated the songs in the set very well so that everything just blends and gets better and better. The arrangements all top notch. This is an album that really drew me in right from the get go.
This two CD set is so great that I bought another to give to my sister. She loves it as much as I. Any Van Morrison fan cannot miss with this purchase. He won't let you down.
If this set is not in your collection, you should buy it today, listen to it a hundred times and curse yourself as I did for not going to the concert, which was minutes from my house. Much of his music is self indulgent, rambling nonsense. Let me start by saying I don't really care for Van Morrison in general. Van, I forgive you for Moondance, no hard feelings remain after listening to this masterpiece. So it may seem odd for me to pronounce this album among the best I have ever heard in my life. From "Beautiful Vision" sung with his daughter (an impossibly touching and wonderful performance) to the Georgie Fame tracks (whom I remember from listening to Radio Luxembourg in the early sixties)to Van's stunning renditions of his hits and other songs - this is a benchmark performance of a man (and his well chosen companions) at the top of his game. Love him or hate him, this performance will thrill you to your bones - every note, phrase, chorus and song is magnificent - a combination of great songs and world class musicianship. Bravo Van and band.
The music has been remastered and a bonus track added. I bought this CD several years ago and managed to misplace one of the discs. It had been unavailable for a while and when it was reissued, I had to jump on it. The musicians and production are top drawer.every track is a masterpiece. One of the best live CD's I'v ever heard.
This is Van's best live album in my opinion. The cast of musicians with him, from the vocalists on down the line, it's an incredibly tight performance. If you're a serious Van fan (way beyond thinking Brown-Eyed Girl is one of his best works), this is a must.
